The ways to provide Arctic regions with advanced transport means were discussed during the workshop session «Industry and trade development» of the State Commission on Arctic developments held on October 7, 2015 under the chairmanship of Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov.

KSRC Director General Vladimir Nikitin has delivered a paper dedicated to the projects for Arctic development with a particular focus on the state-of-the art solutions in icebreaking technologies.

Due to the increase in freight traffic in Arctic, growing demand for icebreaker assistance, urgent demand for Northern Sea Route development as well as due to the necessity in continuous design and development of icebreaking technologies, the session participants have supported the proposal for further development of leader icebreaker and shallow-draft nuclear-powered icebreaker.
