Andrey Stepanov fleet tug designed by Baltsudoproekt for Russian Navy laid down at Yaroslavsky shipbuilding plant

29 july 2015

Andrey Stepanov, Project 23470 fleet tug for the Pacific Fleet of Russia, was solemnly laid down at Yaroslavsky shipyard (city of Yaroslavl’, Russia) on July 23, 2015. This ship is the second in the batch of the seven sister tugs to be constructed under Project 23470 (Baltsudoproekt design).

The lead tug was laid down on October 30, 2014. The design complies with RMRS requirements to the class notation of KM*Arc4 [1] AUT1 FF3WS EPP Helideck Tug and allows tackling a wide range of operational tasks.

The tugs of this design have a special fire-fighting system aboard, so they can be used to extinguish fires at offshore and coastal facilities, as well as to suppress burning fuel spills.

These tugs also have an aft helipad for handling rotary -wing aircraft. Onboard cargo crane (capacity 20 t, boom outreach 13 m) with active motions compensation system enables to perform cargo handling operations autonomously and service the helipad in both still seas and in waves.

Apart from this, the tug will be able to escort the ships in harbors, moor them to piers and quays, as well as to provide sea escort and help grounded ships.

Main dimensions of Project 23470 tug are as follows:

  • Length o.a.: 69.75 m;
  • Beam o.a.: 15. 0 m;
  • Depth to the upper deck: 6.7 m;
  • Design draught: 5.2 m.
