The capacity of electric propulsion plant/electric propulsion system will reach 5.4 MW (two 2.7 MW propellers). The necessity to enhance ship dynamic performance for better positioning and maneuvering that is of paramount importance for towing operations dictated the selection of this system to be installed onboard the tug. Another advantage of this system is the possibility to use the same main diesel-generators for different purposes, for instance: to supply the electric propulsion motors under running mode and high-powered drives of thrusters, cargo lift mechanisms and winch arrangements, fire pumps under maneuvering and harbour modes.

As of today TSNII SET boasts considerable experience in development of electric propulsion systems for home-produced tugs: these systems were developed by the KSRC affiliate for those of Projects 22030 and 745 series.
