The meeting brought together senior officers and leading experts of the Krylov Centre, CDB ME Rubin, SPBM Malachite, AVRORA Scientific Production Association, Shipbuilding & Shiprepair Technology Center, AFRIKANTOV Experimental Design Bureau, Atomenergo, Nuclear Society of Russia, and Rostecnadzor.
Participants of the meeting visited Krylov’s U-3 nuclear reactor site, they were shown around the reactor hall, control room and other facilities. Vyacheslav Struev, Head of Krylov’s Nuclear & Radiation Safety Division, briefed the visitors on the new capabilities of the upgraded research reactor that can be utilized for the benefit of the shipbuilding cluster.
The Krylov State Research Centre and ROSATOM Central Institute for Continuing Education & Training (ROSATOM-CICE&T) signed an agreement on training of ROSATOM personnel at Krylov’s U-3 nuclear reactor.
U-3 Nuclear Reactor is a unique research facility that has been instrumental in resolving a range of challenging problems to define today’s outlook of the Russian nuclear fleet. The reactor was put into operation 50 years ago.
Since the mid-1990s until very recently it has been shut down. After an upgrade the reactor was re-started on 24 December 2014 and brought to the minimum controllable power level.
