Scientists discussing life cycle management of high-tech products

27 april 2017

The second scientific & practical Conference on the Management of Advanced R&D Programs in Life Cycle of High-Tech Products −2017 held in Moscow was organized by the Military-Industrial Commission of the Russian Federation, National Research Center «Institute named after professor N. E. Zhukovsky», and v. A. Trapeznikov Institute of Control Sciences of Russian Academy of Sciences.

The first Conference, which focused on the Methods and Technologies for Life Cycle Management of Sophisticated Products and Engineering Facilities, was hosted by the Krylov State Research Centre in 2014, in particular, that forum addressed the philosophy of life-cycle management and assessment of technology maturity for industrial implementation.

The second Conference concentrated on the management issues related to the early life-cycle phases of advanced and high-tech products, as well as modern approaches to cope with the challenges. The key papers were presented by Andrey Dutov, General Director of NRC Zhukovsky Institute, Colonel S. E. Pankov, Chief of Directorate of Prospective Interservice Research and Special Projects (MoD), and Dmitry Novikov, Director of Institute of Control Sciences (RAS).

Applied R&D efforts, i.e. the first steps of technology life-cycle, are essential for effectiveness and competitiveness of high-tech products. However, the management of applied research and development projects is a sphere suffering most from a shortage of scientifically proven and successful control, administration and automation techniques. Participants of the Conference discussed modern approaches providing an efficient control system for management of applied R&Ds considered as an indispensable part of the holistic life-cycle management system for high-tech products like weapon systems, military and special-purpose hardware.

Krylov’s scientists also presented a number of papers on the subjects related to the development and application of supercomputer technologies in design of high-tech products, systems for accounting and control of R&D activities, and regulatory basis for advanced R&Ds.
