These facilities are intended for simulation of diving pressures on submersible pressure hulls and outboard equipment to investigate their strength and operational robustness, as well as for certification of test structures. Exposures to colossal pressures at extreme ocean depths can be easily simulated.

A total of 1531 experiments have been performed over the lifetime of these test facilities with about 10 000 items of equipment and 13 hulls of manned underwater vehicles tested including Picses, Rift, Mir, Consule, Rus and Bester submersibles.
