70 Years of CDB ICEBERG – design entity of Krylov Centre

10 july 2017

June 6, CDB Iceberg (a design entity of Krylov Centre) marked its70-year jubilee in style at the Officers’ Club. The staff of this leading marine design bureau were receiving congratulations and awards from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, FSUE Atomflot, municipal authorities and Krylov Centre itself represented personally by Director General Vladimir Nikitin.

Seventy years ago the government of the former USSR defined the mission of the newly established design bureau as design of powerful icebreaking and merchant fleet for Arctic waters to support regular shipping via Northern Sea Route with intention to make it a sustainable and normally operating sea lane. Over the years the Central Design Bureau Iceberg has been successfully working to accomplish this mission by designing icebreakers and Arctic class vessels with unmatched technical characteristics. Today the designers are challenged by even more ambitious tasks raised by active development of the Northern Sea Route. Currently, a series of nuclear icebreakers of Arktika-type designed by Iceberg are under construction, with a larger scale project to come: a unique multi-role nuclear icebreaker leader (just recently unveiled by President Vladimin Putin).

Our congratulations to the colleagues! May you be happy, healthy and wealthy!
